Dollar Short Blues

November 26, 2010

The author of “Dollar Short Blues” is my friend, Dr. Robert O. Adair. He’s penned a provocative little poem, providing a humorous yet fitting backdrop to the state of the American economy.

Dollar Short Blues

Ah’d surely give a shout
if’n ah could make this all come out.
Mah money’s already spent
but ah haven’t paid the rent.

Got them Day late, dollar short blues!

Got another cut-off threat.
Got another bill unmet.
Got another threatnin’ letter.
Shore wish’t ah could do better.

Got them Day late, dollar short blues!

Got another hole in mah shoes.
Got a temper on a short fuse.
It shore would be a treat,
if’n ah cold make them darn ends meet!

Got them Day late, dollar short blues!

Mah life’s in a quagmire.
I’m working up a perspire.
Wish’t ah could retire.
Fraid ahm gonna expire!

Got them Day late, dollar short blues!
